Volunteer Crews and Job Overview
Pre = Up to and including August 19 am
Weekend only = August 19 & 20
Post = August 21 am and beyond
Box Office – weekend only
Welcome patrons to the site as they arrive. Collect tickets, sell day-passes and provide festival attendees with wristbands. Child Check-in & security roster. Monitor the entry and exit points of festival site – checking for correct & secured festival wristbands. Perimeter checks to liaise with Green Team & contract Security. These volunteers must be friendly yet assertive and committed to maintaining the integrity of the festival.
Enviro/Green Team – pre, post & weekend
Promote environmental attention and education, and ensure the site remains clean by distributing bins, de-littering the site, and collecting recycling, garbage and compost. Managing on-site sanitation & collection of perimeter refuse as needed. Daily “sweep” of site pre-opening. Site Clean up post-festival. As an Enviro team member you’ll enjoy some of the best volunteer hours of the festival, so you won’t miss any of the action.
F&B (hospitality) – pre & weekend
We look for people with a friendly attitude, attention to detail, and discretion as needed. Some positions require being calm under pressure, diplomacy and a sense of humour. These positions all work directly with the talent in some capacity. This crew facilitates artist hospitality backstage, as well as the volunteer snack provisions. Serving It Right and Foodsafe are required.
Merch – weekend only
This is a fun crew! You need to be very comfortable handling cash & product inventory, extremely responsible and great with people. You will handle all performer merch as well as any festival swag we come up with. Requires calm under pressure, as sometimes it can be very busy, and a friendly but assertive manner to ensure great customer service to both the public and artists.
Site Crew – pre, post & weekend
Set up and tear down the festival site. This crew is only open to veteran volunteers. This team needs people who are able to lift heavy objects and carry out physical labour. Requires creativity, problem-solving, quick thinking and cooperation. Pre- and post-festival volunteers must commit 12+ hours. MANY of the positions on this crew do not require shifts DURING the festival, but you will be expected to work hard. POST-festival positions must purchase a ticket (unless you are well-known to us for previously rocking tear-down) which will be reimbursed in full if you complete your 12+ hours.
Traffic-Parking – pre and weekend
This crew ensures that vehicles enter and exit the parking, loading & camping areas safely, direct traffic and keep roadways and emergency exits clear during festival. Management of authorized vehicles to backstage and loading zones. These volunteers may need to be able to stand for long periods of time and must be friendly yet assertive.
Volunteer Support – pre, post & weekend
This crew is small but super-organized. Responsible for scheduling, orientation party planning & execution, checkin/checkout of volunteers on-site from day 1 to day 12, tracking volunteer hours and fulfillment, managing “swampers” as needed, delivery of meals to coordinators on-shift as needed, overseeing volunteer snack tent in collaboration with Food & Beverage Crew.
Camping – pre, post & weekend
This crew will oversee construction and teardown of camp zone, including site layout, shade structures, communal spaces, water stations, sanitation stations. Zone layout, Checkin/Strike, Water, Shade, Enviro. During the festival, they will oversee camping check in and check out, manage the camp zone throughout the weekend, including overnight, and work closely with security around management of alcohol and other safety considerations.
First Aid & Harm Reduction – pre, post & weekend
Create a safe and happy Cumberland Wild. Includes First Aid, harm reduction, and education; Sanctuary & Safe Harbour; RUOK Rovers who oversee general happiness and safety of guestsm and Water Fairies who ensure easy access to hydration. Friendly yet assertive team members are comfortable being on their feet, and are preferably experienced in first aid/harm reduction. A First Aid certification of some level is required, except for Water Fairies.
HQ / Back Stage Services – pre, post & weekend
This crew helps keep things flowing and secure on site. Lockup looks after performer & volunteer gear, may require occasional heavy lifting, and often bursts of busyness which require attention to detail. HQ and Coordinator Support are the command centre for on-site emergencies, and look after essential services to all crews and staff – managing radios, organize & excute supply runs as needed, communication hub and messaging centre, troubleshooting first contact.
Performer Services – weekend only
This includes performer check-in, artist hospitality liaison, transportation and merchandise liaison. For this crew you are a customer service rockstar who will represent the face of the festival at every moment. You are professional and well-spoken, calm under pressure and ridiculously friendly.
Silent Disco – weekend only
The most fun crew of all, for the night owls! This crew manages the in-and-outs of silent disco headsets. You must be comfortable handling cash and be able to work quickly. Involves collecting & returning ID, rental fees & deposits and attention to detail. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for ensuring headsets are clean, charged and ready for each night’s disco. MUST be friendly and work well in a very busy environment. This crew works overnight, between 9pm-7am.
Swampers – pre & weekend
The “do anything” team. You are the saviours. You are on standby to do whatever needs doing at a moment’s notice. This could include running to town for supplies, fixing a fenceline, patching a hose, delivering a meal or filling in on a crew that’s short-shifted.
